Wildfire destroys 37 ha of wheat field outside Khryaschevatoye
LUGANSK, July 10 (Lugansk Media Centre) – A wildfire caused by carless handling of fire has burnt 37 ha of a wheat field outside Khryaschevatoye, the LPR Ministry of Emergencies said.
Passersby alarmed emergency services on the blaze on July 9, 1.57 p.m.
“Rescue teams arrived to see a wildfire roaring through a vast wheat field complicated by strong gusts of wind. Notably, there fire lines plowed on the perimeter which helped to contain fire.”
The blaze was eliminated at 3 p.m., 37 ha of the field were destroyed.
LPR Emergencies Ministry Hydrometeorology Centre has kept the highest fire hazard level since issuing the warning on June 3 as hot weather has set in.
Fire hazard is a an atmospheric condition characterized by high ambient temperatures, low vapour content, lack of rains and other factors leading to wild fires and grassfires in fields and parks especially due to careless handling of fire.
There are five fire danger levels: very low, low, moderate, high and very high.
LPR Emergencies Ministry reminded that making fires in forests and steppes was prohibited during the fire hazard period. Leaving glass bottles or fragments in forest and steppe areas is also prohibited as glass can act as magnifying lens to start a fire.
