Ukrainian special services detain draft-age men at Stanitsa Luganskaya checkpoint
LUGANSK, November 28 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Ukrainian security service at the Stanitsa Luganskaya checkpoint detains and checks every draft-age man travelling to the LPR.
LPR Ministry of State Security issued a statement saying that "Ukrainian authorities carry out mass detentions of draft-age men (from 18 to 50 years old) to check their military conscription status and register their personal data".
Witnesses said that men in military-style clothes detained all draft-age men and took them to cabins "for conversation and checks of military conscription status" by Ukrainian Security Service members.
"They detained everyone, from young boys to elderly men. I was going to Lugansk with my grandfather, they checked our documents as jackals. They manhandled younger guys as though they were going to run away. People in the queue were saying somebody was detained. One guy accompanied apparently by his father was not allowed into LPR and was told he had nothing to do there. "You have nothing to do in occupation, soon you'll be defending Ukaine with arms," they told him. He was in his thirties, his father in his sixties, how are they going to defend the country? Have they run out of nazists?" another witness told MGB.
Ukraine declared martial law on November 26 after the Kerch incident. The martial law provides military authorities and president with unprecedented powers, while limiting democratic rights and civil liberties of citizens.
Three Ukrainian navy vessels triggered a sharp escalation in tensions in the Kerch Strait on Sunday, November 25, as they illegally entered Russian territorial waters in an apparently premediated attempt to break through Russian border control between the Black and Azov Seas. The three ships were dangerously maneuvering in a busy strait ignoring legitimate demands to stop issued by vessels belonging to the FSB Border Service and the Black Sea Fleet; Russian forces had to use force to halt the provocation, slightly injuring three Ukrainian marines who later received medical attention. Vessels and 24 crew members were arrested.
