Ukraine inserts agent into LPR during prisoner exchange - MGB
LUGANSK, August 22 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic State Security Ministry (MGB) officers detained a special agent of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) inserted into the LPR during prisoner exchange, the MGB press service reported.
“The State Security Ministry exposed and detained SBU special agent Yegor Getman, 35, a resident of Ukraine,” the report said. “He is accused of committing a crime covered by LPR Criminal Code Article 336 (espionage). The investigator found that he had been deployed in Lugansk for covert operations in the course of a prisoner exchange, with a cover story of political prisoner.”
Kharkov-based SBU agents designed a plan to recruit Getman who was detained on charges of separatism and terrorism. To avoid punishment, he gave a written consent to cooperate with Ukrainian secret services. He posed as a Donbass separatist serving a sentence in a Lvov region penitentiary together with political prisoners from the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republic. For six months, the spy was secretly taken to the Yavorov range for training in sabotage and intelligence operations by NATO instructors.
“Fulfilling the task of foreign intelligence in the LPR, (Getman) joined the People’s Militia to engage in gathering sensitive national defence information," the MGB said.
Cooperation with foreign secret services in the LPR is prohibited and punished by up to 20 years in prison with property confiscation.
Under the note to Article 335 (High Treason) and Article 336 (Espionage), a timely report on recruitment by a foreign secret service exempts a person from criminal responsibility.
The MGB asks residents to report illegal actions by Ukrainian secret services by phoning +38 (0642) 34-51-64, +38 (099) 562-89-02, +38 (072) 163-28-00 or writing to email@example.com
