Three-day mourning declared in LPR over the death of DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko

LUGANSK, September 1 (Lugansk Media Centre) – LPR acting head Leonid Pasechnik declared a three-day mourning for the assassinated DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko, who died on Friday evening in a restaurant blast.

The blast took place in the Separ restaurant in downtown Donetsk, between the Pushkina blvd and Komsomolskiy av. Alexander Zakharchenko was fatally wounded, his bodyguard also sustained injuries incompatible with life. Twelve other people were wounded, according to the updated report of the DPR Health Ministry released on Saturday morning. Zakharchenko's administration confirmed his death on Friday evening.

 "I express my condolence over the tragic death of the DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko on August 31, 2018, to his family and friends. In accordance with the Article 60 of the LPR Interim Constitution I delare three-day mourning for him on September 1, 2, 3," Pasechnik's statement reads.

LPR flags shall be returned to half-staff for the period of mourning across the Republic.

All entertaining events and TV shows shall be cancelled.


Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharchenko was born on June 26, 1976.

He graduated from the Donetsk College of Industrial Automatics with honors, worked at a mine, then started a business.

He supported Donbass independence movement after new authorities came to power in Ukraine after the 2014 coup-d'etat in Kiev. During his fight against Kiev's offensive in Donbass Zakharchenko sustained several injuries.

On August 8, 2014 Zakharchenko was appointed the Chairman of the Council of Ministers by the DPR Supreme Council. Then he won the Head’s election on November 2, 2014 with a sweeping majority.
