LUGANSK, April 6 (Lugansk Media Centre) - A delegation of the Republic of Ossetia on a visit to the Lugansk People’s Republic has laid flowers to the monument “They Defended their Motherland,” to mark the 7th anniversary of local residents’ taking control of the regional department of the Security Service of Ukraine.

South Ossetia Deputy Prosecutor General Magomed Bagayev said that the delegation was on a two-day visit to the Republic at the invitation of LPR Prosecutor General Sergey Gorenko. It plans to join official events and hold meetings with LPR officials. The delegation includes representatives of South Ossetia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, Interior Ministry and parliament.

Bagayev said that the South Ossetia people had complete respect for the Lugansk region heroes who stood up for their land in 2014.

“We are happy that our Republics have developed friendly relations. Cooperation between government bodies of the two republics is very fruitful" and smooth, for example we can settle such issues as the protection of residents’ rights by phone, the deputy prosecutor general said.

“The trusting relations between the LPR and South Ossetia were cemented by the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance,” he said.

“So far, South Ossetia has been the only state which had enough courage, honesty and loyalty to recognise the LPR. Today’s visit is not a merely symbolic gesture or a goodwill act, it is a vital step forward,” LPR Prosecutor General’s Office representative Inna Semyonova said.

After the flower laying ceremony, South Ossetia representatives visited the Lugansk Museum of Local History to see a theme exhibition devoted to the 2014-2015 events.

On April 6, 2014, Lugansk region residents rallied  for the defence of constitutional rights taking the SBU department for the Lugansk region under control. Pursuant to the LPR Head’s decree, a memorial plaque was installed in the Republic with the view of “preserving pivotal events in the memory of the generation” and “establishing statehood traditions of the Lugansk People’s Republic.”
