LUGANSK, August 3 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Engineers are clearing site for construction of checkpoints in Schastye and Zolotoye, said People’s Militia chief of staff Colonel Yan Leschenko.

"The employees of the Spetspromservis multi-service company were carrying out site clearance: removing forestations and laying out construction sites for Lugansk-Schastye and Pervomaisk-Zolotoye checkpoints," he said.

LPR began engineer works at the construction sites on July 11 within the framework of the agreements reached at the Minsk talks.

Currently there is only one official crossing point in the LPR area of responsibility in Donbass and it is accessible via the bridge in vicinity of Stanitsa Luganskaya. In September 2017, LPR representatives at a meeting of the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup offered Ukraine to open a crossing point in the Schastye area.

The LPR repeatedly said that opening a crossing point in Zolotoye was not possible without settling the security issue, namely the presence of Ukrainian army hardware in the area which is a gross violation of the framework agreement on the disengagement of forces and hardware signed by Ukraine.

Previously, Kobtseva said that Ukraine had been blocking the launching of transport corridor for delivering humanitarian aid to the LPR. Humanitarian missions had been hand-delivering relief supplies via the pedestrian bridge near Stanitsa Luganskaya because of Kiev’s stance.
