Severdonetsk utility bills six times higher than in Lugansk - analysis
LUGANSK, June 12 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Utility bills in the Kiev-controlled Severdonetsk are six times higher than in Lugansk, according to a Lugansk Media Centre analysis.
Open sources data shows the average price of utility services per one square metre of space in Severdonetsk apartment houses at 5.08 hryvnas. The price is calculated separately for each house and might range between four and 11 hryvnas per square metre.
The ruble-denominated rent (based on the Lugansk People’s Republic Central Bank rates) in Severodvinsk ranges between 9.52 and 26.18 rubles per square metre whereas in Lugansk the apartment rent at houses with all amenities ranges between 2.58 and 4.32 rubles per square metre.
The difference between the maximum prices in Lugansk and Severodonetsk reaches 21.86 rubles, therefore the apartment rent in the LPR is six times lower.
A comparative analysis of central heating prices in Lugansk and Severodonetsk in November 2017 indicated that prices in the Kiev-controlled town were 11 times higher than in the LPR capital.
Acting LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik said that the LPR would keep utility services’ rates low and continue to provide coal to the population as social assistance. He also noted that the LPR utility services’ rates were nearly six times lower than Ukraine and that it was important for the Republic’s authorities to maintain the difference.
Earlier reports said that the Republic would not increase the prices of public utilities’ services in 2018 if no contingencies occurred.
