Russia to supply first batch of COVID-19 vaccine to LPR in January - Pasechnik
LUGANSK, December 31 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Russia will supply the first batch of the Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus to the Lugansk People’s Republic in January 2021, LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik said.
“For the Lugansk People’s Republic as well as for many other countries the year 2020 was a year of trials and problems due to the spread of COVID-19,” Pasechnik said. “We asked the Russian Federation to supply a COVID-19 vaccine and they heard us and supported once again. The Republic expects the first batch of Sputnik V is expected in January 2021.”
Vaccination will target risk groups in the first place, such as medics and certain groups of law-enforcement personnel, he said.
“The Russian Federation has repeatedly helped us in the hour of need; the fight against the coronavirus infection is no exception. Over the year, Russia regularly supplied to us medical equipment and medications we needed which helped control the epidemiological situation,” Pasechnik said.
He added that Ukrainian authorities "continue their criminal policy towards residents of the region," as even amid the epidemic, Kiev obstructs the passage of international humanitarian aid to the Lugansk People’s Republic."
The World Health Organisation called the COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. The first coronavirus infection cases were recorded in China in late 2019. The number of coronavirus contacts across the world has exceeded 80.7 million by now; of those, over 1.7 million people have died. The LPR has confirmed 2,108 COVID-19 cases.
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, the LPR authorities put the Republic on high alert and introduced lockdown measures.
