LUGANSK, September 17 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Acting Lugansk People’s Republic Head Leonid Pasechnik notified the LPR Election Commission on his self-nomination as a candidate for the post of LPR Head to run in the Republic’s November 11 election.
“I’ve come to inform the Central Election Commission on my self-nomination as a candidate for the post of LPR Head,” he said. Pasechnik submitted his written consent to run in the election as well as other required documents
CEC chairwoman Yelena Kravchenko said that Pasechnik had met all the document requirements.
She wished him success in the election campaign.
Earlier, the CEC adopted a number of resolutions to organise and hold the election, such as the resolution on the procedure for nomination and registration of candidates for the post of Head of the Republic, which required self-nomination.
It states that every resident eligible to be elected to the office of LPR Head, has the right to self-nominate as a candidate following the announcement of the election date.
The resolution on the procedure of registration of authorised representatives of the candidate for the post of LPR Head and their participation in the election commits the self-nominee to submitting the notification and other documents to the CEC in the period from September 14 till September 21.
On September 6, acting LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik signed the bills amending the Republic’s Provisional Basic Law (Constitution) and certain legislative acts into law.
Earlier, the parliament approved the legislation extending the four-year term of office of Head of the Republic and lawmakers to five years from the next term.
The parliament also approved the legislation amending certain election laws.
