LUGANSK, October 5 (Lugansk Media Centre) – LPR acting head Leonid Pasechnik said he is running for Head election aspiring to build a Republic governed by its people.
"My team and I decided to build our Republic as a free and independent state back in 2014. We decided there is no room for Ukrainian fascism. Our key friend, ally and brother is Russia, meaning integration with Russia.
"We should not follow somebody's commands. I cannot imagine it. We, people of Donbass, LPR residents should decide on our own fate."
Pasechnik announced his decision to run for Head of the Republic at a 5,000-strong rally in Lugansk on September 22 which supported his nomination.
On September 7, LPR lawmakers passed the resolution setting November 11, 2018 as the date for parliamentary and Head elections. On September 6, acting LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik signed the parliament-approved bills amending the LPR Provisional Basic Law (Constitution) and certain election law which extended the term of office for the Head of the Republic and parliamentarians from four to five years starting from the next election.
