LUGANSK, March 19 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine will continue its operation in Donbass despite the threat of the new type of coronavirus, OSCE SMM media department head Dragana Nicolic Solomon told the Lugansk Media Centre.

Earlier, social media alleged that the OSCE SMM would suspend its work in Ukraine because of the COVID-19 threat.

“The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission will continue to fulfil its mandate across Ukraine (and in Donbass - eds Lugansk Media Centre),” Nicolic Solomon said. “Understanding the COVID-19 threat to public health, the Mission is taking all measures and precautions to minimize risks.”

The World Health Organization called the COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. The first coronavirus infection cases were recorded in China in late 2019.  As of now, the number of coronavirus cases exceeded 219,000; of those more than 8,900 died and over 84,000 recovered and were discharged from hospitals. Coronavirus cases were reported in Ukraine and Russia.

No coronavirus cases were recorded in the LPR. Its leader Leonid Pasechnik put the Republic on high alert due to the coronavirus threat.
