Number of wildfires in Ukrainian territory triples compared to previous years

LUGANSK, August 28 (Lugansk Media Center) –The number of wildfires in Ukrainian territory of the Lugansk region tripled while the affected areas square increased 3.7 times, compared to several previous years, said LPR Ministry of Natural Recourses and Ecological Safety.

"Official statistics show the negative tendencies in wildfires situation in the 'Lugansk region'. The number of forest fires tripled, affected areas increased 3.7 times, compared to several previous years, " the environment agency said.

"Wildfires satellite map of Stanitsa Luganskaya forest hunting range reveals that on August 21-22 fires destroyed 4,016 ha of vegetation."

Best forests, including coniferous, are located in Stanitsa Luganskaya district. Ukrainian authorities are not dealing properly with the wildfires threat thus endangering the environment of the whole region.

The Donbass Republics insist on ecological inspections on Kiev-controlled territories of Lugansk and Donetsk regions, as Ukrainian authorities show extreme negligence towards environmental safety of the region.

LPR Emergencies Ministry reminded that making fires in forests and steppes was prohibited during the fire hazard period. Leaving glass bottles or shattered glass in forest and steppe areas is also prohibited as they can act as magnifying lens to start a fire.
