Number of fires grows almost three-fold since 2019
LUGANSK, March 25 (Lugansk Media Centre) – The number of fires across the LPR has grown by 2.8 times compared to the same period of 2019, the LPR deputy Minister of Emergencies, Civil Defense Col. Valery Vikhtar said.
"Since the beginning of the year 1,042 fires occurred across the Republic, showing 2.8 times growth compared to first three months of 2019 – 366 fires were registered then. The main reason is the weather: early thaw, warm days in March, all of that affected the situation."
Of the total fires registered this year, 122 occurred in residential houses and 475 in open territories of populated areas.
In March alone, Republican firefighters extinguished 526 fires where 1,386 ha of dry grass burned out.
Fire hazard was announced for forest fund territories.
