New head of ICRC in Ukraine visits LPR, inspects Stanitsa bridge (PHOTOS)
LUGANSK, May 15 (Lugansk Media Centre) – The new head of the ICRC delegation in Ukraine Florence Gillette has visited the LPR and traveled to the Stanitsa Luganskaya bridge, Lugansk Media Center correspondent reports.
The representatives of the ICRC were accompanied by LPR Foreign Minister representing the Republic at Minsk talks Vladislav Deinego and LPR representative in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Olga Kobtseva.
The head of the international mission inspected the crossing point, heating center, sun and rain shelters and information boards, and went to see the collapsed section of the bridge over the Severskiy Donets river.
Kobtseva said that Gillette is planning to visit the LPR regularly and to follow the humanitarian situation at the Stanitsa Luganskaya crosiing point.
The reconstruction of the Stanitsa Luganskaya bridge is being obstructed by the disagreement of the sides on its width, as the Coordinator of the Humanitarian working group Ambassador Toni Frisch said in April as he visited the Republic.
Currently there is only one official checkpoint at the line of contact in LPR area of responsibility in Donbass and it is accessible via the bridge in the vicinity of Stanitsa Luganskaya. Only pedestrian traffic there is possible as a temporary wooden ramp has been installed over the collapsed sections of the bridge. The bridge sustained damage after it had been blown up by Ukrainian forces on March 19, 2015. LPR has been continuously proposing to rebuild it.
