New agribusiness to meet LPR’s demand for sunflower oil - Ministry
LUGANSK, July 12 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The sunflower oil factory launched on the basis of the Lugansk-Niva public company will fully meet the Lugansk People’s Republic residents’ demand for this product, LPR Agriculture and Food Minister Yuriy Pronko said during acting LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik’s visit to the facility.
“How big is the Republic’s demand for sunflower oil and to what extent can the factory meet it?” Pasechnik asked Pronko.
“The Republic consumes about 9,000 tons of sunflower oil a year; this company can produce about 11,00 tons a year; it is unique among agribusinesses as its product will be in demand,” the minister said.
“We produce approximately 25,000 to 27,000 tons of sunflower seeds a year; 20,000 tons of this harvest will be supplied here (to Lugansk-Niva’s sunflower oil producer - eds Lugansk Media Centre). We’ll also have by-products such as sunmeal which will meet 100 percent of the demand for fodder in egg and poultry production. Part of the sunmeal will be delivered to cattle farms,” Pronko said.
The sunmeal production cost is lower than the cost of imported sunmeal earlier used by LPR poultry and cattle farms, he added.
“Given our capacity and production development plans, we’ll fully meet the domestic demand for sunflower oil and sell the surplus to the DPR. This is not just a company project, it is part of the Republic’s agricultural production development,” Lugansk-Niva CEO Zinaida Naden said.
“So it means that we have a complete cycle: farmers produce sunflower seeds, we purchase nearly all the harvest for our needs, and sell a surplus of 5,000 to 7,000 tons; i.e. we fully meet the Republic’s demand for sunflower oil and sunmeal,” said Pasechnik.
He expressed the hope that the LPR would continue to develop sunflower oil production.
“My policy and my team’s policy is aimed at promoting producers and offering incentives; I believe it will work out,” Pasechnik said.
Earlier in the day, Pasechnik, together with Lugansk administration head Manolis Pilavov launched the Republic’s first sunflower oil mill at the Lugansk-Niva public company.
Addressing the executive and legislative branches of power over the results of the public discussion of the LPR socio-economic development programme till 2023, called Our Choice, Pasechnik named the strategic goals of the agricultural sector development which include strengthening food security by stepping up domestic food production.
