More than 500,000 LPR residents receive welfare benefits - Social Policy Ministry
LUGANSK, February 1 (Lugansk Media Centre) - More than 500,000 residents of the Lugansk People’s Republic draw welfare benefits, LPR Labour and Social Policy Minister Svetlana Malakhova said at a press briefing at the Lugansk Media Centre.
“More than 500,000 LPR residents are entitled to welfare payments,” Malakhova said adding that the sum of certain benefits increased last year. The Republic’s authorities raised retirement benefits twice for 436,800 recipients.
Benefits for low income families increased by 33 percent, disabled child care allowances increased by more than three times, and prenatal and childbirth allowances and benefits for orphans and children without parental care and lifelong disabled persons, 1st group, increased by nearly times. The Republic has some 66,000 residents entitled to welfare benefits, the minister said.
“At present, we’re considering the recalculation of monthly indemnity paid to industrial accident victims,” she added.
The Industrial Accidents and Occupational Disease Social Insurance Fund has 34,000 people on file, Malakhova said.
At the meeting on December 19, 2017, the LPR Council of Ministers adopted a resolution raising the sum of retirement benefits to 2,904 rubles for the people who had been drawing pensions below that amount. At the December 28, 2017 meeting, the Council of Ministers set the amount of social benefits to be paid in 2018.
On May 12, 2018, LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik said that the Republic had the opportunity to raise the minimum pension payments by 10 percent in 2018. He made the statement during his address to the legislative and executive bodies in connection with the public discussion of the Republic’s socio-economic development programme Our Choice. A month later, the Council of Ministers passed a resolution to raise LPR residents’ retirement benefits starting July 1.
