LPR's Zolotoye checkpoint remains closed until agreement reached in Minsk - Pasechnik
LUGANSK, March 23 (Lugansk Media Centre) – The LPR is to open the Zolotoye checkpoint only after an appropriate decision is adopted at the Minsk talks between the Republics and Kiev, said LPR head Leonid Pasechnik.
Ukraine's representative in the humanitarian group of the Contact Group Irina Geraschenko said on Friday, that Kiev plans to open the Zolotoye checkpoint on Sunday, March 24. Kiev's representative at the Contact Group Evgeniy Marchuk announced plans to begin repair works on the Stanitsa Luganskaya bridge unilaterally.
"Despite the absence of agreements between the LPR and Ukraine on the Zolotoye checkpoint opening, Kiev is going to launch it on March 24 unilaterally and to let a large number of people through. To guarantee safety, the checkpoint shall stay closed on the LPR side until the coordinated decision is adopted by the sides to the conflict, LPR and Ukraine, at the Minsk talks."
Pasechnik said that the Zolotoye provocation was plotted by the Ukrainian president Petr Poroshenko to prompt escalation in the region which is believed to be non-supportive of his candidacy on the eve of the presidential election day in Ukraine.
