LPR transferred inmates to Ukraine as gesture of goodwill - Kobtseva (PHOTOS)
LUGANSK, December 12 (Lugansk Media Centre) – LPR has handed over to Ukraine 42 convicts imprisoned before 2014 as a gesture of goodwill, said LPR representative in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Olga Kobtseva.
"This is a unilateral move of the LPR government, it is not related in any way to the Minsk Agreements and is of humanitarian nature only," she said.
"We have received a number of requests from Ukrainians asking to transfer their convicted relatives to Ukraine-controlled territory. First of all, to facilitate communication as a lot of people risked problems with the SBU in case they travelled to the LPR, besides, there are no transport links or postal services available between Ukraine and the LPR due to the blockade imposed on the LPR by Ukraine."
"We are acting in favor of people and to implement international humanitarian law norms," Kobtseva said.
The agreement to pass over convicts who were imprisoned before the outbreak of Donbass war in 2014 was achieved on December 4 during a meeting of the Contact Group in Minsk.
