LPR suspends Humanitarian Program in the bid to fight coronavirus

LUGANSK, March 20 (Lugansk Media Centre) – LPR has suspended the Humanitarian Program for Reunification of Donbass People as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the deputy Chairperson of the Government Natalya Tikhonskaya said.

"In light of the COVID-19 threat in the LPR, and as Ukraine closed its border with the LPR and DPR, we suspend the Humanitarian Program with respect to social payments, cultural and sport events, professional ties, and medical assistance to residents of Ukraine with the exception of patiens who are currently treated at the hospitals of the LPR Health Ministry."

The World Health Organization called the COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. The first coronavirus infection cases were recorded in China in late 2019.  As of now, the number of coronavirus cases exceeded 219,000; of those more than 8,900 died and over 84,000 recovered and were discharged from hospitals. Coronavirus cases were reported in Ukraine and Russia.

No coronavirus cases were recorded in the LPR. Its leader Leonid Pasechnik put the Republic on high alert due to the coronavirus threat.
