LUGANSK, February 16 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The vaccination of Lugansk People’s Republic residents with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the COVID-19 coronavirus infection is going successfully, LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik said during his working trip to the Antratsit District.
“The vaccination is succeeding. Medics report that the vaccine is good with practically no side effects The vaccine works very well,” Pasechnik said.
Medics, teachers, police, rescuers and militiamen are among the first groups to be inoculated, he added.
Pasechnik said that had it not been for Russia which provided the vaccine, the situation with the coronavirus infection in the Republic would have been far worse.
“Today, we have a real vaccination opportunity, we have the Sputnik V vaccine thanks to Russia’s assistance; we’re very thankful to them for it,” Pasechnik said.
He noted that the faster the Republic vaccinates the population, the sooner LPR residents develop collective immunity to COVID-19.
The World Health Organisation called the COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. The first coronavirus infection cases were recorded in China in late 2019.  The number of coronavirus contacts across the world has exceeded 108.6 million by now; of those, over 2.3 million people have died. The LPR has confirmed 2,871 COVID-19 cases; 251 patients died.
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, the LPR authorities put the Republic on high alert and introduced lockdown measures.
