LPR, South Ossetia parliaments sign cooperation agreement

LUGANSK, February 7 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The speakers of the parliaments of the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Republic of South Ossetia Denis Miroshnichenko and Petr Gassiyev signed a cooperation agreement in Lugansk on Thursday.

The signing ceremony took place in the LPR Government House Pillar Hall.

“Today is a landmark for the legislative branch of power, not just because documents have been signed; it gives our colleagues the opportunity to exchange experience,” Miroshnichenko said. “It is the new stage which facilitates the exchange of experience and joint work of our social and youth organisations.”

Gassiyev conveyed “warm greetings to ceremony participants and guests and the best wishes from South Ossetian President Anatoliy Bibilov and South Ossetian lawmakers.”

“Today we’re signing  the document which is probably key to parliamentary relations. It is quite simple as it has few articles and provisions, but it makes groundwork or, if you will, cornerstone of our future relations. Fleshing it out to a full-scale mechanism depends on us,” the South Ossetian parliament speaker said.

He asked the LPR colleagues to “be vigorous in establishing relations across various sectors so that the signed document does not remain empty words.”

Earlier, Miroshnichenko said that the two parliaments planned to sign a cooperation agreement in Lugansk in February.

On January 25, the LPR parliament ratified The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Republic of South Ossetia.

Miroshnichenko said the ratification created legal groundwork for cooperation at all levels.

On December 19, 2018, LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik and South Ossetia President Anatoliy Bibilov signed a friendship and cooperation treaty between the Republics in South Ossetia’s capital Tskhinval.

On January 18, 2019, the representatives of the LPR, the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Republic of Crimea parliaments signed a cooperation agreement.
