LPR records four COVID-19-related deaths

LUGANSK, May 19 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic medics confirmed four  coronavirus infection-related deaths, LPR Healthcare Minister Natalia Paschenko said.

“On May 18, Lugansk Hospital No 4 chief doctor Alexey Navrotsky, 48, died of COVID-19,” Paschenko reminded. “It was the fourth confirmed COVID-19 related death in the LPR. Pneumonia or chronic disease progression is the worst complication caused by coronavirus infection.”

As of now, we have 15 pneumonia patients; of those five require lung ventilation, she said.

The World Health Organisation called the COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. The first coronavirus infection cases were recorded in China in late 2019.  As of now, the number of coronavirus contacts has exceeded 4.6 million; of those, over 312,000 died. Coronavirus cases were reported in Ukraine and Russia. Earlier, the LPR confirmed 328 COVID-19 cases.

The Republic’s Emergency Sanitary and Anti-Epidemic Commission shut down public catering businesses, ordered education institutions to switch to online courses starting March 30, cancelled public transportation incentives and suspended trade in non-food products. To prevent the spreading of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and pursuant to the LPR Head’s decree on high alert and the degree on certain issues pertaining to the high alert mode, government bodies and officials suspended face to face meetings with residents or launched interaction using electronic queues. The LPR parliament toughened the penalty for violating sanitary and epidemiological norms. The Republic’s authorities issued a strict stay-at-home order for the period from May 1 to May 12.

The Emergency Sanitary and Anti-Epidemic Commission decided on May 11, 2020, to resume the operation of public transport, markets, kindergartens, hairdressers etc. across the larger part of the LPR on the condition that they remain committed to safety precautions.
