LPR records 200 wildfires in 2019, 10 in April alone
LUGANSK, April 10 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Over 200 wildfires have been recorded in the LPR this year, the Emergencies Ministry reported on Wednesday.
"Since the beginning of the year, 194 fires were recorded in open areas. Grass, dead wood, garbage and bushes easily catch fire. As the warm and dry weather settles, more wildfires are expected. Only in the first 10 days of April there were 92 incidents."
In 2018, the LPR firefighters recorded 3,105 wildfires that affected 4,900 ha and caused 2.8 million rubles in damage.
Two people died in wildfires last year, two were injured; 100 houses were destroyed and 34 damaged; one vehicle burnt down; 51 ha of forests, 75 ha of stubble and 4,756 ha of dry grass perished.
LPR Emergencies Ministry reminded that making fires in forests and steppes is prohibited during the fire hazard period. Leaving glass bottles or shattered glass in forest and steppe areas is also prohibited as they can act as magnifying lens to start a fire.
