LPR provided with 90 percent of water from domestic sources - Luganskvoda
State water company Luganskvoda said that the Republic’s domestic sources met 90 percent of the water supply demand as of August and that Ukraine reduced the feed to 10 percent.
“Today, the Republic’s water supply amounts to a total of 320,000 cubic meters per day,” Luganskvoda state water supply company chief engineer Dmitry Bidlyuchenko told a news briefing at Lugansk Media Centre on Tuesday.
ZFS (West Water Treatment Plant in Kiev-controlled part of Lugansk Region - eds Lugansk Media Centre) supplies about 34,000 cubic meters per day, or some 10 percent. “Thus LPR sources account for 90 percent of LPR water supply, and Ukrainian sources for 10 percent,” Bidlyuchenko said.
Luganskvoda specialists are taking measures to boost water supply from domestic sources.
“We have problems that have or have not to do with us, and have to deal with voltage fine points, that is we cannot turn the pumps on and off at our discretion. “However, we’re working towards gaining independence in terms of water supply,” the chief engineer said.
Despite existing accords, Kiev has repeatedly blocked water supply to the Republic from its water intakes since the beginning of this year.
Until 6 March, Kiev had supplied water to LPR territory via two main sources - West water treatment plant ZFS (Lisichansk area) and Petrovskiy duct (Stanitsa Luganskaya area). In case ZFS is shut off or significantly reduces the feed, Stakhanov, Kirovsk, Bryanka, Pervomaisk, Krasniy Luch, Antratsit and Alchevsk face a dramatic depletion of water supply. Lugansk and its Kamennobrodskiy district in particular mostly depend on Petrovskiy water pipe.
State water company Luganskvoda earlier reported that the Republic was provided with 84 percent of the water it needed and Ukraine had reduced the feed to 15 percent.
Until 12 May 2014 overall 258 thousand cubic meters of water were supplied daily to the towns that are currently located in LPR, 132 thousand cubic meters were pumped from local sources. Until the beginning of December 2016, 40-50 thousand cubic meters were fed from Kiev-controlled territories daily and 270 thousand cubic meters were pumped locally by LuganskVoda.
In April and May 2017, ZFS supplied 8,000 to 9,000 cubic metres of water to LPR daily. In pre-war period, water supply volume reached 400,000 cubic meters a day.
