LPR People’s Militia downs Ukrainian attack drone headed for Lugansk
LUGANSK, December 5 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic militia shot down an Ukrainian attack drone flying towards Lugansk, LPR People’s Militia spokesman Yakov Osadchiy said at a press briefing at the Lugansk Media Centre.
Osadchiy said that the Ukrainian army command continued to actively use unmanned aerial vehicles to adjust artillery fire at LPR militia positions and carry out sabotage operations in the Republic’s territory.
“Yesterday, at 12:15, LPR air observation post personnel downed a Ukrainian UAV carrying a VOG-17 grenade launcher round in a container,” he said.
The drone was flying from Schastye towards Lugansk. “It is noteworthy that the incident occurred during a Contact Group meeting in Minsk,” the spokesman said.
He showed Ukrainian UAV fragments to the reporters present at the briefing saying that experts were examining the drone video files.
Earlier, Osadchiy said that the LPR People’s Militia had shot down a Ukrainian UAV on a reconnaissance mission in the Zhelobok village area.
In November, LPR militia shot down three Ukrainian army UAVs, LPR People’s Militia acting chief Mikhail Filiponenko said.
Last year, LPR air defence units downed more than ten Ukrainian UAVs.
The Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements was adopted by the Contact Group on Ukraine on February 12, 2015 and supported by member states of the Normandy Four (Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France). The UN Security Council approved the document by Resolution 2202 and called upon all the sides to ensure full implementation of the Package of Measures.
The document provides for comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal of all heavy weapons from the contact line, starting a dialog on reconstruction of social and economic ties between Kiev and Donbass. It also envisages carrying out constitutional reform in Ukraine providing for decentralization and adopting permanent legislation on a special status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
