LUGANSK, December 21 (Lugansk Media Centre) – LPR People's Militia has detained another Ukrainian service member under influence, said People’s Militia chief of staff Colonel Yan Leschenko.

"As a result of another bender with drugs three service members of the 14th brigade left their unit unauthorized. One of them, Nikolay Tarasyuk, was detained earlier and died of overdose."

"Another defector was not long in coming. Our watchers spotted a Ukrainian serviceman moving towards our positions outside Slavyanoserbsk on December 17. The head watcher provided his safe passage to the positions, where he was detained without using arms and handed over to the commandant's office. The detainee was examined and received medical aid."

The Ukrainian turned out to be junior sergeant Pupko Alexander Ivanovich, born in 1991, in the Nemovichi township of the Rovno region, serves in the 14th brigade, unit commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the mechanized infantry battalion.

When apprehended, Pupko was displayed erratic behavior, in torn and dirty clothes, without a warm coat, with only one boot.

The examination showed that he was under drugs influence, marks of intravenous injections visible on his body, bruises covering his elbows and legs.

The tests revealed the presence barbiturates, amphetamines and marijuana in his blood. The absence of alcohol probably saved his life.

"The command has not reported the defectors to the HQ," Leschenko said.
