LPR militia guarantees not to engage Ukrainian firefighting aircraft
LUGANSK, October 1 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The Lugansk People’s Republic People’s Militia guarantees not to use its air defense units if Kiev employs firefighting aircraft over the Donbass areas which are under its control, LPR militia chief of staff Yan Leschenko said.
“Due to the fires spreading in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, we urge the Ukrainian leadership to quickly take measures to contain the fires to as far as using aerial firefighting,” Leschenko said. “For its part, the People’s Militia is ready to guarantee non-use of its air defence.”
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported 146 wildfires in the Lugansk region over the past 24 hours, which quickly engulfed larger areas due to adverse weather conditions. As of 10:00, October 1, firefighting efforts were continuing at 64 locations.
The worst situation developed in the areas of Stanitsa Luganskaya and Severdonetsk, where wildfires threaten 22 settlements.
