LUGANSK, December 5 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Representatives of the Lugansk People’s Republic People’s Militia and the Union of Lugansk Region Afghan Veterans social organisation passed to the Ukrainian authorities the body of Ukrainian saboteur Sergey Prodanyuk who had been  killed in an explosion in a friendly minefield during the attempt to break into the Republic’s territory.

The body was handed over in the Severskiy Donetsk bridge area in the vicinity of Schastye.

On November 29, a group of Ukrainian commandoes triggered an explosion in a friendly minefield in the Sokolniki village area, Slavyanoserbskiy district, in an attempt to enter the LPR territory. Five Ukrainian servicemen were killed. On December 2, the LPR People’s Militia press service reported that militiamen had evacuated the body of a dead Ukrainian saboteur.

“The LPR has handed over the body of a Ukrainian soldier killed in an attempt to enter the LPR territory with a group of saboteurs,” LPR People’s Militia acting chief Mikhail Filiponenko said.

MUTUAL CEASEFIRE

“We passed Prodanyuk’s body and his personal belongings to (Ukrainian) Defence Ministry representatives under the Evacuation-200 plan, chairman of the Afghan War Veterans Union Sergey Shonin said adding that the procedure had been previously coordinated between the Ukrainian Defence Ministry the LPR People’s Militia.

“As always, it went well. We observed mutual ceasefire and delivered the body and personal items to the Schastye bridge to (Ukrainian) representatives for subsequent handover to relatives and burial,” Shonin said.

His deputy Viktor Mukha aadded that Ukraine had acknowledged during the handover that Prodanyuk was a Ukrainian serviceman.

HOMEBOUND COFFIN

Filiponenko thanked the LPR representatives from the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination and the personnel of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine who attended the handover. He called upon Ukrainian servicemen not to follow the criminal orders given by their commanders.

“Stop obeying the orders of your commanders who kill you; we have to pass your dead bodies lying in black coffins to your relatives. This war will avail nothing: we’ll never fall back,” Filiponenko said.

Earlier, he said that commander of the so-called Joint Forces Operation Lieutenant-General Sergey Nayev, aiming to increase Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko’s rating, ordered commanders of the Operations and Tactical Group “North” to take new positions in the “grey zone” which resulted in Kiev’s manpower losses. Filiponenko urged the OSCE SMM to caution Ukraine against the attempts to take the so-called “grey zone” on the contact line in Donbass.

The Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements was adopted by the Contact Group on Ukraine on February 12, 2015 and supported by member states of the Normandy Four (Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France). The UN Security Council approved the document by Resolution 2202 and called upon all the sides to ensure full implementation of the Package of Measures.

The document provides for comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal of all heavy weapons from the contact line, starting a dialog on reconstruction of social and economic ties between Kiev and Donbass. It also envisages carrying out constitutional reform in Ukraine providing for decentralization and adopting permanent legislation on a special status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
