LPR, ICRC Ukraine discuss plan of Mission’s work for 2019
LUGANSK, September 10 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mission in Ukraine Alain Aeschlimann and Lugansk People’s Republic officials met in Lugansk on Monday to discuss prospects for ICRC work in the Republic in 2019, LPR representative in the humanitarian subgroup, head of the LPR working group on prisoner exchange Olga Kobtseva told the Lugansk Media Centre.
The LPR envoy to the Minsk talks, acting LPR Foreign Minister Vladislav Deinego and LPR Council of Ministers acting deputy chairman Alexander Drobot took part in the talks.
“We had a meeting with Mr Aeschilmann today to discuss prospects for ICRC work in the humanitarian sphere in 2019,” Kobtseva said.
“The parties discussed access for ICRC representatives to persons held in the LPR in connection with the conflict, the rebuilding of the ruined span of the Stanitsa Luganskaya bridge and assistance to LPR residents living in the vicinity of the contact line,” she added.
Earlier, Kobtseva said at the meeting with Toni Frisch that the repairs of the premises of the Stanitsa Luganskaya crossing point carried out on the Ukrainian side had not resolved the key problem of the wooden bridge which had to be repaired several times a year.
Ukraine unilaterally shut down the Stanitsa Luganskaya crossing point from September 2 till September 7. Kobtseva had urged the Ukrainian government not to close the Stanitsa Luganskaya crossing point without launching the Schastye crossing point first.
Earlier, OSCE coordinator at the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Toni Frisch thanked LPR representatives at a meeting in Lugansk for arranging a visit to the Lugansk penitentiary previously known as Pre-Trial Detention Centre No 17.
