LPR emergency service rescues 99 people, 23 vehicles from snow drifts in 24 hours
LUGANSK, January 10 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The Lugansk People’s Republic Emergencies Ministry personnel rescued 23 vehicles carrying 99 people from snow drifts over the past 24 hours, the Ministry’s press service reported.
“Emergencies Ministry personnel rescued 99 people in 23 cars from snow drifts in adverse weather conditions,” the report said.
As many as 157 cars with 387 people have been pulled out of snow drifts since the beginning of this year, the Ministry's rescuers said.
With unfavourable weather forecasts, the LPR Emergencies Ministry urged the drivers to postpone travel.
Earlier, Lugansk Avtodor state-owned enterprise director Oleg Koval called the road conditions unsafe due to continuing snowfalls and snowdrifts.
Heavy snowfalls and strong winds in the LPR have caused icing and snow drifts on the roads in the past few days. The Republic’s road services have employed all the available road cleaning equipment.
