LPR Election Commission registers LES movement parliament candidate list

LUGANSK, October 4 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The Lugansk People’s Republic Central Election Commission has registered the Lugansk Economic Union (LES) social movement's candidate list for the November 11 parliamentary election, CEC secretary Yekaterina Tereschenko said at a press briefing at the Lugansk Media Centre.

“LES has gathered 1,500 voter signatures in support of the nomination of its candidates for the Republic’s parliament,” Tereschenko said. The CEC recognised 1,216 signatures as authentic and rejected another 284.

“Following verification of the document and support lists, the CEC decided at its October 4 session to register the republican list of candidates for the LPR People’s Council submitted by the Lugansk Economic Union for the election on November 11, 2018,” she said.

Earlier, the CEC registered the republican list of parliamentary candidates from the Mir Luganschine social movement.

“This basically concludes the registration of candidate lists for the upcoming elections,” the CEC secretary said.  

On September 7, LPR lawmakers passed the resolution setting November 11, 2018 as the date for parliamentary and head of the Republic elections. On September 6,  acting LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik signed the parliament-approved bills amending the LPR Provisional Basic Law (Constitution) and certain election law which extended the term of office for the Head of the Republic and parliamentarians from four to five years starting from the next election.
