LPR, DPR call for direct dialog on economic issues at Minsk talks

LUGANSK, June 5 (Lugansk Media Centre) – The LPR and DPR have called for a direct dialog on acute economic issues at the meeting of the economic subgroup today in Minsk, the DPR Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova told TASS News Agency.

"We expected new Ukrainian representatives to alter their rhetoric in favor of efficient approach towards the talks at today's meeting," she said.

"In connection with the abovementioned, we suggested to commence a direct dialog between the two sides, the Republics and Ukraine, within the designated working group.

"In particular, we suggested bilateral coordination of actions to lift the economic blockade, coordination of procedures to mutually allow humanitarian and industrial shipments, coordination of procedures concerning the management of industrial assets, and the related income and costs distribution; building mechanism of retribution payments for damages caused by Ukrainian authorities related to the blockade, including job losses, decrease of salaries, pending pensions and social benefits."

On February 27, 2017 DPR and LPR Heads Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitskiy warned Kiev that the Republics would put Ukraine-registered companies under receivership and halt coal supplies to Ukraine if the Donbass transport blockade organized by Ukrainian radicals was not lifted by 1 March. Under the LPR tax law external management was introduced on non-resident companies to rearrange their production lines so that jobs and social guarantees for the employees are preserved.

After the 2014 coup d'état in Ukraine, new authorities launched an offensive against Donbass and introduced economic blockade of the region, halting banks operations and payments of salaries, pensions and social benefits to all residents of Donbass. Later on Ukraine introduced the pass system on the contact line between Kiev forces and Donbass People's Militia, significantly complicating it for civilians to cross into Ukraine and back.
