LPR can resist Kiev in case of escalation, Ukraine stands no chance of winning - Pasechnik
LUGANSK, January 25 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The LPR is capable of withstanding Ukrainian aggression if the conflict escalates, the head of the Republic Leonid Pasechnik said in the Vesti Nedeli programme on the Russia-1 TV channel.
“I don’t think that Ukraine has the military potential that will allow, as they say, some blitzkrieg. If such a decision is taken by the Ukrainian side, I think, excuse me, this is crazy. Our army is capable of resisting, there will be a huge number of victims. Will the escalation be a victorious one? Definitely not, "he said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said in late 2020 that the Ukrainian military leadership is examining the experience of the Nagorno-Karabakh armed conflict, where in September 2020 Azerbaijan launched an offensive to gain control over a number of territories.
After the meeting of political advisers of the "Normandy four" on January 12, the deputy head of the Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak expressed doubts that Kiev will dare to use force in Donbass following the Nagorno-Karabakh example.
The Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against Donbass in April 2014. The settlement of the conflict is based on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarusian capital by the participants of the Contact Group and approved by the heads of the Normandy Four countries (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The document, in particular, provides for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the line of contact.
