LPR begins work to open Zolotoye and Schastye crossing points

LPR People's Militia engineer units have explored territory along the contact line outside Zolotoye and Schastye where the construction of a crossing point has begun earlier today, said LPR People’s Militia representative at the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) Colonel Mikhail Filiponenko.

"As of now, LPR People's Militia engineer units have explored territory of the construction site and communal services have begun clearing the ground for the construction," he told journalists.

Earlier in the day LPR representative in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Olga Kobtseva said that LPR had issued security guarantees to the Ukrainian side for the period of the construction.

"We have issued security guarantees for the Ukrainian side for the whole period of the construction, from May 1 to August 31, but Ukraine sabotaged the process and issued security guarantees from July 10," she said.

LPR has extended its security guarantees until November 10, 2020.

The agreement on opening Lugansk – Schastye and Pervomaisk – Zolotoye additional crossing points was achieved at the Paris summit in March.

Currently there is only one official crossing point in the LPR area of responsibility in Donbass and it is accessible via the bridge in vicinity of Stanitsa Luganskaya. In September 2017, LPR representatives at a meeting of the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup offered Ukraine to open a crossing point in the Schastye area.

The LPR repeatedly said that opening a crossing point in Zolotoye was not possible without settling the security issue, namely the presence of Ukrainian army hardware in the area which is a gross violation of the framework agreement on the disengagement of forces and hardware signed by Ukraine.

Previously, Kobtseva said that Ukraine had been blocking the launching of transport corridor for delivering humanitarian aid to the LPR. Humanitarian missions had been hand-delivering relief supplies via the pedestrian bridge near Stanitsa Luganskaya because of Kiev’s stance.
