LUGANSK, May 13 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Lugansk and Kiev are in talks over opening the border for people who have good reasons to travel, said LPR representative in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Olga Kobtseva.

The only crossing point between the LPR and Ukraine has been closed as part of anti-COVID-19 measures since March 23.

"We have agreed to work out via telephone calls a possible way to let people cross the border," Kobtseva said.

"I want to address people and ask for understanding, the number of people crossing the border is limited not because of "the bad guys" but because of the epidemic."

The World Health Organisation announced COVID-19 a pandemic caused by novel coronavirus. The first cases were reported in China in late 2019. As of now, the number of the infected across the world has exceeded 4.1 million; more than 285,000 have died, according to WHO. Both Russia and Ukraine reported COVID-19 outbreaks. Earlier, the LPR confirmed 275 COVID-19 cases.
