Lithuanian military instructors injured in IED blast on minefield outside Trekhizbenka
LUGANSK, July 31 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Lithuanian military instructors were injured in mine explosions outside Trekhizbenka (Tr'okhizbenka), said People’s Militia chief of staff Colonel Yan Leschenko.
"According to our intelligence, yesterday Lithuanian experts were travelling from one unit of the 93rd brigade to another accompanied by Ukrainian military, as they entered a minefield in the vicinity of Trekhizbenka (Novoaidar district). One of the vehicles triggered an improvised fougasse," he said.
Two Ukrainian service members were killed in the blast, one critically injured. Two Lithuanians and two Ukrainian troops suffered concussions.
"The JFO HQ commission is investigating the incident. It has already revealed a number of critical violations, for instance, engineers of the 93rd brigade install mines without marking the territory with mine hazard signs. This particular area outside Trekhizbenka was not marked on maps and on the ground," Leschenko said.
Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. Conflict settlement relies on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarussian capital by the Contact Group members and coordinated by the Normandy Four heads of states (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The document provides for ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line.
