Lisichansk resident sentenced to 12.5 years for espionage - prosecutors
LUGANSK, February 25 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The Supreme Court of the Lugansk People’s Republic sentenced a Lisichansk resident to 12.5 years in prison for spying for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and confiscated his property, the LPR Prosecutor General’s Office press service reported.
The Lisichansk resident who had a criminal record sent information about the strength and stationing of LPR militia units to the SBU in the period from January to April 2018, and also reported on LPR active duty militiamen causing damage to the Republic’s defence capability. The SBU paid the man for the provided information, prosecutors said.
The LPR Supreme Court handed down a guilty verdict to the defendant sentencing him to 12.6 years and ordering to confiscate all his property.
“The man was charged under LPR Criminal Code Article 336 (Espionage). The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges, repented his crime and is now serving his sentence,” the PGO press service said.
