Kobtseva: Kiev's proposal to open new checkpoints without safety guarantees is absurd
LUGANSK, February 12 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Kiev's proposal to open Zolotoye and Schastye checkpoints simultaneously is currently absurd as Kiev is not observing the safety guarantees, said LPR representative in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Olga Kobtseva.
"Ukraine made a resounding statement concerning the checkpoints – to open Zolotoye and Schastye checkpoints simultaneously – that caused a confusion on our side," she said.
"Opening the checkpoints when Kiev completely ignores safety guarantees and uses artillery in the vicinity of Zolotoye is absurd."
Kobtseva emphasized that LPR has been proposing to open these checkpoints for several years now on the condition that Ukraine stops shelling the territory.
At the meeting that took place in Minsk today the sides only exchanged opinions and suggestions, she said.
"LPR and Kiev agreed to do some "homework" for the next meeting to find a middle ground concerning the checkpoints.
Currently there is only one official checkpoint on the contact line in the Lugansk People’s Republic area of responsibility in Donbass and it is accessible via the bridge in vicinity of Stanitsa Luganskaya.
Stanitsa bridge has lately been repaired, as LPR has been proposing to do for several years. It was opened on November 20.
