Kiev forces fire nearly 250 rounds at LPR territory over week - People’s Militia
LUGANSK, February 9 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Kiev forces fired nearly 250 rounds of ammunition at the Republic’s territory over the past week, LPR People’s Militia’s acting chief Colonel Mikhail Filiponenko told a news briefing at Lugansk Media Centre on Friday.
“Over the past week, Ukrainian forces violated the ceasefire 14 times, using all types of weapons, including those banned by the Minsk Agreements: 152mm and 122mm artillery, 120mm and 82mm mortars, infantry fighting vehicle cannons, recoilless guns, grenade launchers and small arms,” Filiponenko said.
“Overall 248 artillery, mortar and grenade launcher rounds were fired at LPR territory,” he added.
Nizhneye Lozovoye, Kalinovka, Logvinovo, Vergulevka, Komissarovka, Kalinovo and Krasniy Liman were shelled by Kiev forces over the past week. The orders to fire at LPR settlements were given by Ukrainian army 54th mechanised brigade commander Maistrenko, 10th mountain assault brigade commander Zubanich and 58th motorised infantry brigade commander Drapatiy.
“Five houses and outbuildings were damaged as Kiev forces shelled Vergulevka and Komissarovka. They also damaged a transmission line leaving 40 customers without electricity,” Filiponenko said.
The members of the Contact Group have announced ceasefire more than ten times since autumn 2014. Kiev forces regularly violated the truce opening fire with large calibre artillery, mortars and tank guns which were to have been withdrawn in accordance with the Minsk agreements.
The Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements was adopted by the Contact Group on Ukraine on 12 February 2015 and supported by member states of the Normandy Four (Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France). The UN Security Council approved the document by its 2202 Resolution and called upon all the sides to ensure full implementation of the Package of Measures.
The document provides for comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal of all heavy weapons from the contact line, starting a dialog on reconstruction of social and economic ties between Kiev and Donbass. It also envisages carrying out constitutional reform in Ukraine providing for decentralization and adopting permanent legislation on a special status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
