ICRC in Lugansk distributes 3,000 tons of humanitarian aid in 2018

LUGANSK, December 28 (Lugansk Media Centre) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Lugansk has distributed more than three thousand tons of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable population in 2018.

"This year, more than 124 thousand people received individual food parcels and hygiene items. In addition, ICRC distributed 158 tons of construction materials and equipment for water supply, more than eight tons of medical supplies, 196 tons of fodder, 933 sets for schoolchildren of grades 1-4, 4.5 tons of materials for insulation of damaged houses, 10,634 kits of seeds," the ICRC office in Lugansk said in a press statement.

In addition, the ICRC office in Luhansk has built 11 houses destroyed during the conflict this year and provided furniture, household appliances and household supplies for these households.

Furthermore, the ICRC supported two schools near the contact line with materials to improve the safety of schools (5.6 tons), implemented a project on building a new 1600 m water conduit for 2,000 residents of the Zolotoye-5 contact line village.

Construction of a kilometer-long electric line for a kindergarten in Novosvetlovka has been completed this year as well.

Earlier Alan Eshliman, Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross Office in Ukraine, said that the ICRC activity in Ukraine is the ninth largest among Red Cross operations around the world. There are plans to increase the budget by 2019 by about ten percent.
