Four killed in Alchevsk house fire - LPR Emergencies Ministry

LUGANSK, September 3 (Lugansk Media Centre) - An Alchevsk fourplex fire claimed the lives of four people; another eight tenants with small children survived, the Lugansk People’s Republic Emergencies Ministry press service reported.

The fire in Zaporozhskaya Street was reported to Rescue Service 101 by neighbours at 4:30 a.m. on September 2. Experts located the source in the annex to the house where a 84-year-old man lived without permission. The fire spread to apartment No 3 where three people were at the time: the 55-year-old owner, his 49-year-old female partner and their 59-year-old acquaintance. All the four bodies with various degrees of burns were found during the firefighting effort.

Eight tenants managed to leave the burning house unassisted before the arrival of the fire brigade. They carried out four children aged several months to four years, none of them was hurt.

“The fire was extinguished at 6:12 a.m. The shed, the porches and apartments No 3 and No 4 fully burnt down and 120 square meters of roof were damaged. The firefighters managed to keep the flames from destroying apartments No 1 and 2 which sustained slight damage to ceilings and furnishing,” according to the Ministry.

The shed tenant’s careless handling of fire is the probable cause,” it said. Temporary dormitory accommodation belonging to the town administration was provided to the people who lost their homes.

Earlier, the LPR Hydrometeorology Centre announced that the Republic would stay prepared for highest fire danger till September 7.
