First 100 LPR residents vote on Russian Constitution amendments (PHOTOS)
LUGANSK, June 25 (Lugansk Media Centre) - The first 100 Lugansk People’s Republic residents who got Russian citizenship have taken part in the voting on amendments to the Russian Constitution.
“The first hundred of LPR residents who have Russian citizenship has voted on Russian constitutional amendments in the town of Donetsk in Russia’s Rostov region,” a Lugansk Media Centre correspondent reported.
On Thursday morning, the first group of LPR citizens who have obtained Russian citizenship left Lugansk for Donetsk and Novoshakhtinsk in the Russian Federation’s Rostov region to vote on amendments to the RF Constitution.
Earlier, the LPR Infrastructure and Transport Ministry published the schedule of bus runs to Russian Federation’s Donetsk, Novoshakhtinsk, Gukovo and Krasniy Sulin towns for LPR residents who have obtained Russian citizenship and will travel to the above destinations to vote on Russian constitutional amendments.
The LPR Election Commission elaborated on the voting procedure.
On April, 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree easing citizenship rules for residents of the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic. LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik thanked Russia for this move and ordered the ministries concerned to facilitate the citizenship procedure. The first centre for LPR residents seeking Russian citizenship opened in Lugansk on May 6. The Republic currently has such centres in all towns and districts.
The Interior Ministry launched an electronic queue for LPR and Russian Federation passport applicants; as well as a call centre for residents to check document status. Electronic queue registration for LPR and Russian passports and fingerprinting is available in all LPR towns and districts.
The first LPR residents received Russian passports under a simplified procedure on June 14, 2019.
Putin also signed the law exempting Donbass Republics residents from paying the state fee for conferment of citizenship.
Pasechnik said that as of June 12, more than 110,000 LPR residents had obtained fast track Russian citizenship.
