Fires destroy 187 ha of forest, grass in LPR over 24 hours - Emergencies Ministry
LUGANSK, October 6 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Fires have destroyed some 187 hectares of forest, dry grass and leaf litter in the Lugansk People’s Republic over the past 24 hours, the Republic’s Emergencies Ministry press service reported.
“One hundred and one fires have been extinguished including 87 forest, grass and leaf litter fires on a total area of 187 hectares,” the report said.
Earlier, LPR Emergencies Ministry Supervision and Prevention Measures Department director Andrey Buryak said that the area of outdoor fires that occurred in the Republic in 2020 reached nearly 9,000 hectares. The number of fires increased by 2.5 times year-on-year.
The LPR Emergencies Ministry Hydrometeorology Centre announced very high fire hazard level in the Republic starting September 1 and later extended it to October 9.
Fire hazard is a an atmospheric condition characterised by high ambient temperatures, low vapour content, lack of rains and other factors leading to wild fires and grassfires in fields and parks especially due to careless handling of fire.
There are five fire danger levels: very low, low, moderate, high and very high.
