Dry grass burns down on 50 hectares in LPR over 24 hours - Emergencies Ministry
LUGANSK, March 26 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic firefighters have extinguished 29 fires in the LPR over the past 24 hours; dry grass burnt out on 50 hectares, the Republic’s Emergencies Ministry press service reported.
“They were mostly grass and garbage fires,” the press service said. “Twenty two fires have swept across 50.69 hectares of dry grass since 25 March.”
Earlier, LPR Emergencies Ministry Supervision and Prevention Measures Department director Valery Vikhtar said that more than 730 outdoor fires had occurred in the Republic since the beginning of the year burning dry grass on some 1,500 hectares.
The number of fires in the Republic has increased by 2.8 times since the beginning of 2020 year-on-year. Careless handling of fire is the main cause of fires.
The LPR Natural Resources Ministry announced a forest fire hazard period starting March 11, 2020.
