LUGANSK, October 4 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic Central Election Commission chairwoman Yelena Kravchenko handed in a candidate’s ID to Leonid Pasechnik who is running for Head of the Republic at the November 11 election.
Earlier, the CEC registered Pasechnik as a candidate. After verification of the documents and support lists, the CEC registered four candidates for the country’s top post, CEC secretary Yekaterina Tereschenko said.
“Today, the CEC handed in candidate’s IDs to Leonid Pasechnik and Oleg Koval,” Kravchenko said.
The two other candidates, Lyudmila Rusnak and Natalia Sergun, will receive their IDs on Friday.
The ID is needed to have the candidate’s name put on the voting paper.
“I’m ready for the election. It’s an emotional procedure (getting the candidate’s ID - eds Lugansk Media Centre), just imagine the responsibility I have to bear,” Pasechnik said. “I’m sure that we’ll cope and that together we’ll be successful.”
“Of course, I’m anxious, it’s a responsible move, a benchmark,” he added as he collected his candidate’s ID.
Earlier, Kravchenko said that the CEC had received support lists from four of the eight candidates for the Republic’s top post.
Pasechnik announced his decision to run for Head of the Republic at a 5,000-strong rally in Lugansk on September 22 which supported his nomination.
On September 7, LPR lawmakers passed the resolution setting November 11, 2018 as the date for parliamentary and Head elections. On September 6, acting LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik signed the parliament-approved bills amending the LPR Provisional Basic Law (Constitution) and certain election law which extended the term of office for the Head of the Republic and parliamentarians from four to five years starting from the next election.
