Apakan introduces his successor Çevik in the Contact Group and SMM
LUGANSK, June 5 (Lugansk Media Centre) – The former head of the OSCE SMM and coordinator of the security subgroup of the Contact Group Ertuğrul Apakan has presented today in Minsk his successor Yaşar Halit Çevik, said Olga Kobtseva representing the Republic in the humanitarian subgroup.
"The meeting of the working group on security issues has begun. Ertuğrul Apakan opened the meeting presenting new head of the OSCE SMM and coordinator of the security subgroup of the Contact Group Yaşar Halit Çevik.
"The Ukrainian side is represented by the commander of the so-called Joint Forces Operations Bogdan Bondar."
Earlier Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine will be represented by the newly appointed head of Ukrainian army HQ Ruslan Khomchak. On Wednesday, presidential press service said Zelensky changed his mind as "the participation of the HQ head is untimely.
Valeria Lutkovskaya is now heading the delegation to the humanitarian subgroup instead of Irina Geraschenko. Other delegations remain unchanged.
According to an OSCE press statement, "prior to this appointment, Ambassador Çevik served as Turkish Ambassador to Syria and Greece as well as Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations. In Turkey he served as Deputy Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during 2009-2012. Mr. Çevik graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science."
