Activists call for extending LPR head, parliamentarians’ term in office
LUGANSK, August 9 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic activists have called for extending the Republic’s head and People’s Council deputies’ term in office.
The initiative was signed by chairman of the AMK grassroot trade union organisation, engine driver Igor Bartosh, Vladimir Dal Lugansk National University acting rector Viktor Ryabichev, director for welfare issues, chairman of the Luganskteplovoz council of veterans Stefan Kushnarev, head of Taras Shevchenko University Department of World History and International Relations Oksana Dibas and University rector Elena Tregubenko.
“On May 12, 2018, head of our Republic Leonid Pasechnik presented the programme of the LPR socio-economic development till 2023 “Our Choice” to the legislative and executive branches of power. More than 70,000 LPR residents offered their recommendations for the development strategy over the next few months.
The proposals integrated in the programme aim to solve the key problems in the next five years: rebuild the ruined housing and vital infrastructure facilities, strengthen industry and economy and make Donbass residents’ life better in general.
“The LPR authorities collected and processed the proposals to flesh out a development programme; it would be fair to give them time to finish this work, while we, residents of the Republic will be able to assess the authorities’ efforts. That is why we believe it is important to come up with the initiative to extend the government bodies’ term in office and ask the Republic’s leadership to consider it,” the activists said.
The LPR Central Election Commission earlier reported that it was drawing a plan to prepare and hold the election of the LPR head and parliamentarians. Under Article 69 of the LPR Constitution, the LPR People’s Council sets the date for the election of the parliament and LPR head, while the election procedure at all levels is regulated by LPR laws. The unregulated issues are handled by the LPR Election Commission.
