90,000 residents obtain fast-track Russian citizenship - LPR Interior Ministry
LUGANSK, March 18 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Russia has granted citizenship to more than 90,000 Lugansk People’s Republic residents under a simplified procedure, LPR Interior Ministry said.
“More than 90,000 LPR residents are now Russian citizens; some 105,000 applicants are awaiting the decision,” the report reads.
Following the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decree on simplified Russian citizenship procedure for LPR and DPR residents, the LPR Ministry has been putting in colossal work.
The LPR Migration Service opened branches in densely populated areas of Lugansk and hired more staff. The LPR town and municipal administrations launched Russian citizenship application centers.
The Republic is currently operating 29 such centers.
Earlier, the LPR Interior Ministry public relations center reported that in 2019, the Migration Service had accepted Russian citizenship application documents from more than 80,000 residents.
On April, 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree easing citizenship rules for residents of the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic. LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik thanked Russia for this move and ordered the ministries concerned to create the necessary conditions for accepting residents’ Russian citizenship application documents. The first center for LPR residents seeking Russian citizenship opened in Lugansk on May 6.
The Interior Ministry launched an electronic queue for LPR and Russian Federation passport applicants; as well as a call center for residents to check document status. Electronic queue registration for LPR and Russian passports and fingerprinting is available in all LPR towns and districts.
The first LPR residents received Russian passports under a simplified procedure on June 14, 2019. Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said that as of December 2019, some 125,000 DPR and LPR residents had been granted fast-track Russian citizenship.
