9,000 applicants admitted to LPR universities - Education Ministry
LUGANSK, September 4 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic universities admitted more than 9,000 applicants this year, LPR Education and Science Minister Sergey Tsemkalo said at a meeting chaired by the Republic’s Prime Minister Sergey Kozlov.
Kozlov said that the meeting with universities rectors was aimed to resolve problems that could emerge in the beginning of the new academic year.
“I invited to our meeting my deputies and executives who are in charge of your universities. You voiced your problems and we tried to find solutions,” he said.
The rectors reported that the universities had begun the new academic year as usual.
The LPR education and science minister briefed the participants on Admissions 2020 results and optimisation in the higher education system. “We enrolled 9,014 students this year overall; as of September 1, the number of students in the Republic reached over 36,000,” Tsemkalo said.
Optimisation toughened the competition among applicants and helped establish new university bodies.
“Two applicants competed for each place at LPR universities. For some professions, the competition was ten or even 20 applicants per place. All higher education centres had set up new departments by the new academic year and changed their approaches to and views on training. The vector adopted by the government and LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik shows that it was the right choice, as Admissions 2020 indicated,” he said.
