30th Brigade servicemen shell Logvinovo as they celebrate departure from JFO zone - LPR militia
LUGANSK, September 10 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Ukrainian army 30th Brigade gunmen shelled the Logvinovo area as they were celebrating their departure from the so-called “Joint Forces Operation” zone, Lugansk People’s Republic People’s Militia press service officer Ivan Filiponenko said at a press briefing at the Lugansk Media Centre.
Over the past 24 hours, the enemy violated the ceasefire three times, Filiponenko said. The Kalinovo township area was shelled from positions of the Ukrainian army’s 72th Brigade, while 30th Brigade servicemen fired at the Logvinovo village.
“According to our observers, 30th Brigade 1st Battalion gunmen celebrated their departure from the “Joint Forces Operation” zone by shelling an LPR settlement. Prior to the strike delivered in gross violation of the ceasefire, nationalistic slogans and shooting were heard from Ukrainian armed formations’ positions," he said.
He said that the LPR militia did not respond to the provocation and did not return fire. No civilian casualties or damage to civil infrastructure were reported.
“We again urge OSCE Mission monitors to immediately intervene in the situation and put pressure on Ukrainian armed formations to make them keep the truce,” the LPR militia representative said.
The members of the Contact Group have announced ceasefire more than 20 times since the autumn of 2014. Kiev forces regularly violated the truce opening fire with large calibre artillery, mortars and tank guns which were to have been withdrawn in accordance with the Minsk agreements.
The Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements was adopted by the Contact Group on Ukraine on February 12, 2015 and supported by member states of the Normandy Four (Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France). The UN Security Council approved the document by Resolution 2202 and called upon all the sides to ensure full implementation of the Package of Measures.
The document provides for comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal of all heavy weapons from the contact line, starting a dialog on reconstruction of social and economic ties between Kiev and Donbass. It also envisages carrying out constitutional reform in Ukraine providing for decentralization and adopting permanent legislation on a special status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
